Memphis Favorites - A Little Getaway
I'm all about experiences instead of gifts in this stage of my life, so I suggested a weekend getaway for my birthday. We originally planned on going to Chattanooga, but we are actually going there with family for Memorial Day. So, we decided to head to Memphis for the weekend instead. We knew we wanted good food, to go to bookstores and hit up the Civil Rights Museum while we were there. Oh and Ikea of course!
We really wanted a laid back vacation because this is the first time we've traveled without Owen since before he was born. So, we were okay with sitting and reading in our hotel instead of finding tons of things to do. We stayed at this hotel, and it was amazing. I highly recommend. I'm already thinking about going back because I loved it that much. The cafe in the hotel is also very yummy, and we both enjoyed the avocado toast!
Before we went to our hotel, we went to the National Civil Rights Museum, and I cannot recommend it enough! It's a great place to start if you need an introduction to why the Civil Rights Movement is so important to our history as a nation.
We went here for before dinner drinks and snacks, and the whole vibe was amazing. There was a DJ, and it is in an old train station. So, think moody lighting and neon signs! We headed to the restaurant (in the same building as the bar), and everything we had was delicious. I cannot recommend the gnocchi enough. Like they were life changing. The burger was also delicious!
When we were walking that evening to our hotel, we saw several fun shops we wanted to check out when they were open the next day. So, we went to this book store, and I had been following this potter for a while, so of course we had to check out her store front! I got a mug, and I truly LOVE it!
Now that I'm all into books, I wanted to check out as many local bookstores as possible! We went to 3 while we were in town, but this one was my favorite by far. I love when bookstores have recommendations on the books, and their children's section was amazing.
When we are in town next, we want to bring Owen back and check out the children's museum and the zoo because we have heard amazing things about both. It's so interesting to me that I went most of my life never going to the biggest town in Tennessee.
