The Common Thread No.6

Well, here we are already at Halloween! How did this happen? But I hope you have the best day if you choose to celebrate Halloween with your loved ones. We get to experience our favorite tradition of the younger two in their school Halloween parade. The kids and parents go to businesses downtown and get candy from businesses and other locals. It's precious and a core memory for our family. Then, I'll head to Owen's class for the Halloween Party, and I am just so excited. The holidays are my favorite way of living through my kids' eyes, and I hope you feel the same whether it be through friends, your kids, or your grandkids.
We've had a busy week of baseball wrapping up for the fall season, dress up days at school, and the stomach bug with one of our kiddos. Owen has learned and grown so much this season in baseball. He was one of the younger kids on the team, but he didn't give up easily. We got him some private lessons on batting, and that really made a huge difference in his confidence on the field. He says right now he wants to try soccer in the spring, so I guess we'll see what happens!
Thank you so much for all the love and support you've shown on our Quarterly that will come out in about 3 weeks. We are so excited to share the people and the stories in her pages, and we hope you enjoy it! Order below if you haven't had a chance to do so yet!
We have a really fun event next week on Wednesday when Clay Rice will be here to create silhouettes of your little ones! He has been doing this for decades, and they are the perfect heirlooms! It's $48 (including a $10 deposit) but you receive 2 silhouettes, so you have one and you can give one as a gift! I cannot recommend this more, and I'm so excited to have Nora's done along with y'all next week.
Also, Friday (November 7) is a big day in Columbia! It's First Fridays with our Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:30! And we'll have Christmas up in the store! It's going to be such a fun time, so mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season!
Here’s my weekly favorites:
There’s some weird virus that is going through our house, and it reminded me last night as I was rocking a stuffy nosed baby I needed to get our humidifier out of the closet. It’s been super easy to clean and fill, and there’s not much else you can ask for when it comes to a humidifier.
And another thing that is my ride or die for cold and flu season is this thing! Nora thinks it’s hilarious, and I can tell a big difference in her breathing after we have used it for a minute or so. We got the whole kit last year, and I just recently purchased a replacement bottle of the saline solution.
I realized quickly this morning I need an “in-between” jacket for these cool mornings that are just a tiny bit too warm for my big coat. I am seriously considering this one, but I can be talked off the ledge if anyone has tried it and hated it.
I have another dessert recipe for you this week because it’s getting colder and who doesn’t love a warm cup of tea with a freshly baked cookie? This might be one of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes. It has oat flour in it which gives it some texture almost like oatmeal cookies. Add a little sprinkle of flaky sea salt, and they are to die for!
If I had to ask for one thing that wasn’t really a need this Christmas, it would be this mug. I love it so much. We use them almost daily in our house. It’s the perfect weight and size, and we have started to slowly build our collection.
